Mother’s Day Reflection: The Women Who Shape the Feeling of Home

At Kyllo Homes, we spend every day designing homes around real life the routines, relationships, and moments that shape how a home truly feels.

Because while beautiful finishes and thoughtful layouts matter, the feeling of home comes from the people living inside it.

Whether it’s through our custom modular homes, thoughtfully designed interiors, or functional family layouts, we believe homes should support the people who make them feel alive.

It’s built in the everyday moments:

  • Morning routines before school
  • Family dinners after long days
  • Quiet conversations in the kitchen
  • Bedtime stories
  • Holiday traditions
  • The comfort of knowing someone is always there

And for many families, women play a deeply important role in shaping those experiences.

This Mother’s Day, we wanted to reflect on the women whose care, presence, and unseen efforts often help hold a home together.

Not in a perfect way.
Not in a traditional way.
Just in a very human one.

The Work That Often Goes Unnoticed

Some of the most important parts of a home are the things children never really see while growing up.

The planning.
The organizing.
The remembering.
The emotional support.
The countless little details that keep family life moving.

Research continues to show that women still carry a large portion of household and caregiving responsibilities, even while balancing careers and busy schedules outside the home.

According to Statistics Canada, women in Canada still spend more time on unpaid household work and caregiving responsibilities on average.

But beyond statistics, many women simply become the steady rhythm behind family life — helping create routines, warmth, stability, and comfort in ways that often go unnoticed.

While every family looks different, caregiving and emotional support can be carried by mothers, fathers, grandparents, same-sex parents, and chosen family members alike. This reflection simply acknowledges the meaningful role many women continue to play within the home today.

Home Is a Feeling Before It’s a Floorplan

Long before children remember square footage or design details, they remember how a home felt.

They remember:

  • Feeling safe
  • Feeling cared for
  • Feeling welcome
  • Feeling supported during hard days

That emotional side of home matters.

And thoughtful home design should support real life — not just look beautiful in photos.

At Kyllo Homes, we believe functionality matters because it can make everyday life easier for the people carrying the responsibilities inside the home.

That might look like:

  • Kitchens designed for gathering
  • Mudrooms that help reduce clutter and stress
  • Better storage solutions for busy families
  • Open layouts that encourage connection
  • Quiet spaces to recharge at the end of the day

A well-designed home should support the people who make it feel alive.

The Women Behind Kyllo Homes

The story of Kyllo Homes itself was also shaped by strong women.

Long before today’s custom homes, show suites, and modular designs, the vision behind this company was built through family, hard work, and people who deeply cared about creating spaces where others could feel at home.

Marianne Thomsen — a true matriarch within the company’s story — played a pivotal role in helping bring the original park model vision to life. Her influence helped shape not only the direction of the business, but the family-centered values that continue to guide Kyllo Homes today.

That influence continues through the generations.

Company President Greg Kyllo often speaks about the importance of family, and much of the heart behind the company has been shaped by the women closest to him — his wife Georgina and their four daughters.

Their influence can be felt in the way Kyllo Homes approaches design: creating spaces that are warm, functional, welcoming, and built for real life.

Because for us, home has never only been about construction.

It has always been about people.

The Women Who Shape Our Memories

As we get older, many of us realize the things we remember most about home were never really physical at all.

It was:

  • The meals someone made
  • The traditions they kept alive
  • The way they comforted us when life felt hard
  • The feeling of being cared for without needing to ask

For many people, those memories are closely connected to the women in their lives.

Mothers.
Grandmothers.
Stepmothers.
Aunts.
Sisters.
Mentors.
Caregivers.

Women who helped shape not just homes — but childhood itself.

Not through perfection, but through presence.

A Mother’s Day Reflection from Kyllo Homes

This Mother’s Day, we simply wanted to recognize the women whose care and effort often happen quietly behind the scenes.

The women balancing work, caregiving, schedules, emotions, and everyday life.

The women creating spaces that feel warm, safe, and lived in.

Because at the end of the day, home is never just about the building itself.

It’s about the people who make others feel loved inside it.
