Homes with Heart: Why Our Family Story Could Be Yours Too

Who is Kyllo Homes?
How your heart needs to feel at home in your home.
By Georgina Kyllo

Kyllo Homes tell a story—a story that begins with you and what your heart desires in a home you want to share with your family and loved ones. I am so proud that our family business began this story so many years ago, and I love seeing how it has grown through our new branding. I truly believe that feeling at home in your home is one of life’s most important comforts.

Our daughter, Samantha, who now works with the family company, helped rebrand the modular homes side of the business, distinguishing it from the classrooms and wellsite accommodations. Kyllo Homes is different—the word that comes to mind is cozy comfort. I love the new slogan, “Homes with Heart,” which Sammy introduced.

Working with your parents comes with its own unique challenges (as you can imagine!), but I wanted to write this to say, from the bottom of my heart—thank you, sweetheart. You’ve created a new brand that truly speaks to who we are as a family-owned company.

Thank you also for the vibrant and engaging social media posts featuring your beautiful, active little boys and pets—and for sharing the stories of our wonderful new homeowners. When you asked me to write this blog, I started by thinking of you, our family, and your journey. As the youngest of your four sisters, you’re the only one who has stepped into the family business—so far—and that’s brave, Samantha Hansma! I’m so proud to be your mom and Nani to Harvey and Noah.

I hope this blog helps others understand why building a Kyllo Home is such a special experience—just like you and Mike chose to do for your family.

When Samantha and her husband Mike began house hunting, they spent two frustrating years searching, bidding, and being disappointed—priced out of older homes that needed costly renovations. Like many young families, they realized how hard it is to find a home that is affordable, functional, and ready to live in.

In today’s housing market, with high prices and limited options, we know how overwhelming it can be. Not all homes are created equal—but modular homes have come a long way. At Kyllo Homes, we specialize in custom modular homes that are not only more affordable but also crafted to suit your lifestyle and personal taste.

Samantha and Mike envisioned a home built for them—not just one they had to “make work.” And that’s what we do. We build homes that fit your life.

We also believe the building process should be enjoyable and collaborative. You’re part of every step, and our team ensures your home is uniquely yours—from floor plan to final finishes.

Do you dream of a show-stopping kitchen with sleek countertops, warm wood accents, and a welcoming space to cook and gather with loved ones? That’s possible with Kyllo Homes.

Our family, like many in the Shuswap, loves indoor-outdoor living. My husband and I recently talked about adding an expansive patio door so we can enjoy our yard with our twelve grandchildren—hosting lively family dinners or quiet evenings with a glass of wine.

Every home tells a story—yours. Samantha and Mike’s home includes a two-bedroom rental suite, room for two energetic boys, a golden retriever named Maisy, a cat named Romeo, several goldfish, and even a backyard chicken coop! Their spacious home features an open-concept kitchen and living room with plenty of natural light. It’s simple, functional, and perfect for their family’s needs.

At Kyllo Homes, we design homes to fit your property—not force your property to fit the home. Many traditional manufactured homes are built to standard lot sizes, which can lead to wasted space and poor orientation. Our custom builds consider sunlight, views, slope, and outdoor living, so your home feels just right—inside and out.

Now you might be wondering, “Okay, I’m interested—what’s next?”

The answer is simple: plan ahead.

Building a custom home takes time and thoughtful preparation. That’s why our slogan is “Homes with Heart.” The best builds begin months in advance. Booking your build spot gives you time to work with our sales team, develop your design, and secure today’s pricing before costs rise.

A home is more than walls and a roof—it’s where life happens. When you choose Kyllo Homes, you’re choosing quality craftsmanship and a home that truly reflects you.

That’s the difference between a house and a home you love.

So plan ahead, beat the rush, and secure your spot. We’re only a phone call away—and we’d be honoured to help you build your home with heart.

Today

With rising home prices across British Columbia, building new simply makes more sense than ever. In fact, average home prices are forecast to exceed $1 million in BC by the end of 2025, with inventory remaining tight across the Okanagan and Shuswap regions.

For Samantha and Mike, building new meant avoiding costly renovations, energy inefficiencies, and the compromises that often come with resale homes. Plus, since their home was affixed to a permanent foundation and built to CSA standards, they qualified for CMHC-insured financing, just like any site-built home.

In regions like the Shuswap, where modern, move-in-ready homes are scarce, families are increasingly turning to modular builds for better long-term value.
